Tucson, Arizona

Tucson's a very diverse town in the middle of the Arizona desert area.
The Sonora Desert Museum is more of a wildlife exhibit, showing
animals that live in the area. We have been looking for bighorn
sheep all during our trip - this is the closest we have been - had
to be in captivity.

Saguaro National Park preserves these amazing cactus plants -
some as high as forty feet.

The mission San Xavier del Bac is one of the first missions to be established in what was the northern area of New Spain. It is being rebuilt by both the current parish and local and state grants. The outside carvings and inside sculptures and artwork are being
painstakingly restored. The artisans are doing a beautiful job.

Old Tucson Studios has been shooting movies and TV shows for a long time. "How the West Was Won", "Wagon Train", "Little House on the Prarie", numerous John Wayne and Clint Eastwood epics were done here, and many more. Each day they put on a western "shootout" loosely based on the TV show "Wild, Wild, West."

Tombstone is located southwest of Tucson, and is of course renowned for the "Shootout at the OK Corral" A reenactment is done daily, including the Earp brothers, Doc Halliday and the bad guys.
Lots of fun!!!

San Diego

San Diego is a great city to visit, with a beautiful waterfront, parks, and winter temperatures averaging in the high 60's and 70's.
This was the view from the rear window of our RV at a park on Mission Bay.

Balboa Park is a treasure - built by the city to host a World's Fair to
celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal. The architecture has
been restored to many of the buildings, and there are museums, theaters, and restaurants within the park. We attended a concert at this outdoor pipe organ stage. The instrument is one of the largest in the world.

Cabrillo National Monument is on Point Lomas, across San Diego Bay
from the city. The Pacific Fleet makes a home here, as well as on Coronado Island.

This is typical of the Pacific shoreline, north of the city.

And the zoo - the San Diego Zoo is adjacent to Balboa Park and can be an all day excursion. The animals are generally outside in familiar habitats, and the landscaping is lush and spectacular.
